Bridging Art and Spirituality: UIN Alauddin Makassar's Community Service Event Engages and Inspires

Gowa, – October 19, 2024 – The Department of English Language and Literature, Faculty of Adab and Humanities at UIN Alauddin Makassar, in collaboration with Kala Teater and the Gowa District Library and Archives Office, successfully held its Community Service event themed "Art and Spirituality" on Saturday, October 19, 2024, at the Gowa District Public Library.

The event drew participants from various walks of life, including students, the general public with an interest in literature, and lecturers from the Department of English Language and Literature. The attendees expressed great enthusiasm, particularly during the Artist Talk with Satoko Ichihara, a renowned Japanese playwright and director. Satoko delivered her talk in Japanese, and her insights were translated by a skilled interpreter, further engaging the audience.

The event began with a Prologue on Art and Spirituality by Dr. Rosmah Tami, a lecturer at UIN Alauddin Makassar. In her remarks, Dr. Tami highlighted the importance of maintaining cultural traditions in the face of rapid technological advancements, stating, "Kemajuan teknologi bukan berarti kita melepas diri dari tradisi kita..." ("Technological advancements do not mean we should abandon our traditions.").

The collaboration between UIN Alauddin Makassar, Kala Theater, and the Gowa District Library underscores the importance of fostering community dialogue on the intersection of art, culture, and spirituality. The success of the event is a testament to the community's interest in these themes and their eagerness to engage with international artists and scholars.
